Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The office-bearers of the municipal corporation expressed on Saturday that G Sreekanth, as an administrative leader, has worked in the municipal corporation over the past three years and taken every section to a new level. He has truly laid the foundation for the city’s development, and now the task of completing it should be carried forward by the new municipal commissioner, Amol Yedge.

A farewell for G Sreekanth and a welcome ceremony for Amol Yedge was organised by civic officers and staff at Sant Eknath Rangmandir. The event was attended by mayor Sameer Rajurkar, deputy mayor Rajendra Janjal, MLC Sanjay Kenekar, standing committee chairman Anil Makariye, leader of opposition Abdul Sameer, acting district collector Sambhaji Adkune, and deputy commissioner of police Pankaj Atulkar. The citation was read out by deputy commissioner Vikas Navale. Several officials, office-bearers, and corporators shared their views on the occasion.

Worked by understanding the city’s needs

Mayor Rajurkar said that G Sreekanth carried out works after understanding the needs of the city. He helped advance the development plan, widened roads, and ensured compensation of Rs 1.1 crore for the family of a sanitation worker who died. He also made the municipal corporation body more people-oriented and even filed cases against political figures during anti-encroachment drives. Rajurkar added that as a divisional commissioner, he should also strengthen the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Metropolitan Region Development Authority (CSMRDA). He assured full support to Amol Yedge, expressing confidence that he would further elevate the city’s development.

Will work to take the city to greater heights

Amol Yedge, responding to the felicitation, said he had visited the city seven years ago to see its heritage sites, and now the government has given him an opportunity to work here. He said it is as a part of his career learning and acknowledged that G Sreekanth had done justice to all sections and issues. He expressed his commitment to taking the city to even greater heights and said he would continue to receive guidance from him (G Sreekanth) as an elder brother.

Never stepped back from taking decisions

G Sreekanth said he never stepped back from making decisions. While there may have been mistakes, his intentions were always good. He noted that when he took charge, there were ongoing inquiries and challenges, and every issue seemed complex. Many matters were taken to the High Court, whether related to water or the development plan. During anti-encroachment actions, he even visited affected homes and interacted with residents. He remarked that with stronger support from elected representatives, even more work could have been achieved. He added that the municipal corporation would now receive the required revenue lands.
