Demand to grant reservation by including Maratha community in OBC

Aurangabad, May 13:

The Sambhaji Brigade's state speaker Shivanand Bhanuse has appealed to the state government to grant reservation by including the Maratha community into the other backward class (OBC) category.

While addressing a press conference in the city, Bhanuse informed that the organisation will be sending a memorandum to the chief minister in this regard, at one time, through the state's all divisional commissioners, district collectors, and tehsildars on May 14. The Supreme Court scrapped the Maratha reservation granted under SEBC. It is an injustice to the community. The result was expected due to the wrong policy of the sitting government and the leader of the opposition. Instead of granting reservations under OBC, the Maratha's were awarded a reservation from the non-statutory category. This had disappointed the community. The SEBC had been introduced by the union Government by making a special amendment in the Constitution.

Bhanuse threatened of launching an agitation if the state government does not approve their demand in its cabinet meeting. SB's state organiser Balaji Jadhav, district president Ramesh Gaikwad, district president of Maratha Seva Sangh Dhananjay Patil, district organiser Jaganath Aadatrao, Vaibhav Bodke, and Swapnil Ghumre were also present on the occasion.
