Aurangabad, Dec 16:

The department of posts (DoP) underlined of recording a monetary transaction of Rs 204 crore through its savings account and also delivered a sum of Rs 2.5 crore by visiting doorstep of 5,000 citizens, from Aurangabad and Jalna districts (of Aurangabad Division), during the lockdown period.

There was lockdown in the country, but the DoP''s field staff maintained its service from April to August. Through its India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), their Covid Warriors visited 5,000 houses from Aurangabad Division and distributed Rs 2.5 crore to them. The IPPB also recorded 1.70 lakh transactions to the tune of Rs 204 crore in their savings account.

The field staff, including 657 postmen and Gram Dak Sevaks (GDS) delivered 1,000 money orders to the customers at their homes. The department also delivered necessary medicines to 1,500 customers at their homes during the lockdown. The senior citizens benefitted the most as medicines were ordered from different cities in the country. Moreover, 2,500 students opened their accounts at IPPB to get their scholarship money during the lockdown.

Meanwhile, the senior superintendent of posts (SSP-Aurangabad Division) G Sivanagaraju said, " All of our field staff including postmen, GDS and others acted as Covid Warriors during the lockdown. They rendered their services without any hesitation and taking appropriate measures. DoP has feted its 47 personnel from Aurangabad and Jalna districts with Corona Warrior award."
