A 60-year-old man lost his life after a speeding motorcycle went out of control and rammed into him in the Tardeo area of South Mumbai. The deceased has been identified as Babu Faimuddin Sheikh. The Tardeo Police have arrested the accused biker, Prajesh Prasad Shetty, in connection with the incident.
According to police, the accused Prajesh Shetty, a resident of Parel, works as a hotel manager.
The victim’s son, Akram Sheikh, resides with his family on Haji Ali Road in Tardeo. Akram and his father Babu Sheikh were engaged in a small vending business. On Saturday around 10 pm, Akram received a phone call from his cousin Simran informing him that his father had been hit by a biker and was seriously injured near a public toilet on K.K. Road.
Akram rushed to the spot and immediately shifted his injured father to Nair Hospital in a taxi. However, doctors declared Babu Sheikh dead at around 11 pm.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Tardeo Police reached the spot and took the accused biker into custody. During interrogation, the accused was identified as Prajesh Shetty.
Police investigations revealed that Shetty lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to ride at high speed, leading to the fatal collision. After the accident, he allegedly fled the scene without providing medical assistance to the victim or informing the police. However, he was detained within a few hours.
Following Akram Sheikh’s complaint, the police registered a case against Shetty for causing death due to negligent and rash driving. He was later arrested and sent for medical examination. Authorities stated that it is yet to be confirmed whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
After his arrest, the accused was released on bail, police said.
