Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Dr Pravin Wakte, a senior professor from the Department of Chemical Technology, was appointed as full-time Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) on Monday.
The appointment was made at a Management Council meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Dr Vijay Fulari. The post of Pro-VC at Bamu had been vacant since March 4, 2026.
An urgent Management Council meeting was convened under the chairmanship of VC Dr Vijay Fulari at 12 noon today to fill the position.
Registrar Dr Prashant Amrutkar, along with 15 members, attended in person, while four members joined online. A proposal for the full-time Pro-VC post was placed before the council by the administration at the meeting.
VC Dr Vijay Fulari and all members approved the appointment of Dr Pravin Wakte to the post, under Section 13(6) of the Maharashtra Universities Act.
Dr Wakte has been engaged in teaching and research in the Department of Chemical Technology for the past 27 years.
Previously, he served as acting Pro-VC from August 6, 2019, to 28 October 2020. He has also served in various roles, including Coordinator of Santpith Paithan, Director of the IPR Cell, member of the Purchase Committee, and member of the Senate, Academic Council, and Management Council.
He has additionally served as a member of the Board of Examination, Director of CIFART, Director of Bajaj Incubation Centre, Director of the Innovation Board and Member Secretary of the Board of Deans.
Dr Wakte was presented with an appointment letter by VC Dr Fulari, in the presence of Dr Prashant Amritkar. He also serves as an expert member of the Maharashtra State Council of Higher Education. He holds patents and is the President of the Gajanan Mandir Trust in the city.

Experience as Pro-VC
Dr Pravin Wakte handled the role of Acting Pro-VC commendably for approximately one and a quarter years. During this period, the academic and administrative audit (AAA) of affiliated colleges was carried out successfully. He was also serving as a member of the Board of Deans. He has now been appointed as full-time Pro-VC with a tenure of approximately 32 months.
