Fake drug case registered as source and supply under probe

After a four-month delay, a case has been registered regarding the supply of counterfeit medicines to GMCH and other cities in the state.

The investigation will now focus on where these medicines were manufactured, and the source of raw materials and packaging supplies. In December 2024, it was revealed that Kolhapur-based Me. Vishal Enterprises supplied fake medicines to GMCH. Although the hospital later stopped their use, many of the pills had already been consumed by patients. The supply chain included multiple middlemen before reaching the hospital. The case was filed at Begumpura Police Station on Wednesday.

Kerala company found to be non-existent

It was falsely claimed that the medicines were produced by a Kerala-based company. However, an inspection confirmed that no such company exists. This was previously reported by Lokmat Times on December 27, 2024. Assistant Commissioner of FDA (Medicines), Shyam Sale, confirmed the findings after official correspondence.

Medicines now tested before use

Following the incident, all medicines purchased for GMCH nd the district civil hospital are now being tested at NABL-accredited labs. Only after receiving the test reports are the medicines administered to patients.
