A 55-year-old farmer, Bhausaheb Shejwal of Vairagad (Gangapur tehsil), was killed and his 17-year-old daughter Shivani critically injured after a cement mixer machine reversed and dragged their motorcycle nearly 50 feet on the Walai river bridge along the Lasur Station–Devgaon road on Thursday around 8 am. The duo were heading to drop Shivani to her Class XI coaching after offering prayers on Hanuman Jayanti. Police said the mixer (MH-20-GV-1050), engaged in Kaigaon–Devgaon state highway work, was allegedly reversed at speed. The driver, reportedly wearing headphones and driving a vehicle without a rear-view mirror, failed to hear their screams. Shejwal died on the spot; Shivani was shifted to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for treatment. Villagers and relatives refused to take custody of the body, demanding a culpable homicide case against the contractor. Shejwal is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
