Fire near airport radar after wedding fireworks spark blaze
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Fireworks set off during a wedding procession triggered a fire near the airport’s radar zone on Wednesday night, causing brief panic in the area.
The incident occurred around 9 pm when sparks from crackers landed on stacked wood and dried grass inside the airport premises. Traffic on Jalna Road was briefly disrupted due to onlookers gathering at the spot. According to the fire department, the radar area had been cleared a few days ago, with trimmed branches and dry grass piled nearby. On Wednesday, a wedding ceremony was underway at a lawn near the airport. Firecrackers burst by a procession passing along Jalna Road reportedly flew into the airport compound, igniting the dry material. The fire spread rapidly. Fire officer Chhatrapati Kekan, along with personnel Yogesh Dudhe, Akash Neharkar and Sumit Chandanshiv, rushed to the scene. After nearly 45 minutes of efforts, the blaze was brought under control using two fire tenders. Airport Director Sharad Yevle said the fire broke out near the radar area and was prima facie caused by fireworks from the wedding procession. No casualties were reported, and the situation was swiftly contained by the fire department.
