Form task force to regulate fertiliser sales: collector orders action against hoarders

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

District collector and chairman of the district-level fertiliser stock monitoring committee, Vinay Gowda G.C., has directed the formation of a task force to regulate fertiliser sales and take strict action against hoarders.

The collector instructed officials to ensure adequate availability of urea in the district and to inspect cases where fertilisers are being purchased beyond prescribed agricultural requirements or sold illegally. Shops and dealers found selling excessive quantities in the name of a single individual or engaging in hoarding will face action. The directives were issued during a recent review meeting on fertiliser demand, allocation and sales for the Kharif season 2025–26. The review covered availability and sanctioned allocation from the agriculture commissioner for urea, DAP, MOP, complex fertilisers and SSP.

Police support to be sought

The collector ordered verification of cases where farmers may have stockpiled fertilisers beyond permissible limits or where dealers may have made irregular sales. The district currently has a buffer stock of 10,550 metric tonnes of urea and 1,200 metric tonnes of DAP. The agriculture department has been asked to seek police assistance during inspections. Licences of dealers found guilty will be cancelled and restrictions imposed on fertiliser sales. The task force will also verify fertiliser purchases against farmers’ records to prevent misuse.
