Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Government and semi-government employees across the state have launched a statewide strike from Tuesday over various pending demands. The strike has affected all eight districts of the region. Out of 7,066 employees, 1,126 did not participate in the strike and managed the revenue administration of all eight districts.

A total of 1.7 million (17 lakh) employees across various departments in the state have joined the strike. Employees have resorted to this action to press for demands such as service-related issues of teaching and non-teaching staff, filling of vacant posts, and reforms in the National Pension Scheme. The strike has disrupted work in all government offices, including the revenue department. All affiliated organisations have participated in the strike called by the State Government Employees’ Central Association and the State Government Group D (Class IV) Employees’ Central Federation. The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Talathi Association has also joined the strike. Around 450 talathis working in the Marathwada division participated, affecting work related to approximately 9,000 villages.

All village revenue officers (talathis) and circle officers in the district have joined the strike. However, employees assigned to election duties and natural disaster-related work will continue to report for duty, according to Talathi Association representatives Dhananjay Salve, Dagdu Jarare, Satish Bhadane, Anil Suryawanshi, Santosh Lolge, and Dnyaneshwar Sonawane.

44,000 employees on strike

Around 44,000 employees in Marathwada have participated in the strike. In the district alone, 16,000 employees have joined, claimed employees’ union Vice-President Devidas Jarare. Health department staff also joined the strike in the morning, followed by employees from all government offices. Protests were held in front of all District Collector offices across the division in the afternoon. Jarare stated that the strike would continue.
