Aurangabad, Nov 13:

Diwali is the festival of lights and firecrackers, and the city hospitals are all geared up for the day. Various wards in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) have been beautifully decorated by the doctors and staff on the eve of Diwali. This is being done to spread festive joy among the patients and ensure that no sense of forlornness sets among the patients or their relatives staying away from home.

On an average, about twelve hundred patients are admitted to the GMCH. Breakfast and lunch are provided daily for these patients. On the occasion of Diwali, it is planned to give them a sweet meal (feast), said dietician Manju Manthalkar. Similarly, sky lanterns and colourful lights are installed at the entrances of every ward. Various wards in the surgical building in the GMCH have been decorated to relieve the stress and pain of the patients. Skylights were installed in various wards. Sky lanterns have also been installed in wards in the Government Cancer Hospital. GMCH dean Dr Kanan Yelikar said,“On Diwali, while all the homes are lit up, the scene at the hospitals remain gloomy with a sense of aloofness among patients and their families. So, we decided to celebrate Diwali in our own way, the idea was welcomed by the patients as well as the staff and doctors.” Medical superintendent Dr Suresh Harbade, Special executive officer Dr Arvind Gaikwad are taking efforts.
