Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justice Sandeepkumar More and Justice Abasaheb Shinde has directed the Commissioner of Police (CP) to take a decision on applications related to a cheating case registered in 2018 at Begumpura police station over an alleged fraud of Rs 14 lakh on the pretext of providing a bank job. The bench gave the orders while hearing a criminal petition filed by Sunil Ashok Gawli.

According to the complaint, an offence was registered at Begumpura police station on August 21, 2018, under Sections 420, 406 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The suspects Shaikh Jafar Shaikh Usman, Shaikh Hasina Shaikh Jafar and Shaikh Shabana Shaikh Jafar allegedly cheated the complainant of Rs 14 lakh by promising employment as a peon in a bank but failing to provide the job.

In connection with the case, the petitioner had submitted applications to the police commissioner on March 8, 2022, and November 28, 2025. However, as no decision was taken on those applications, he approached the High Court.

During the hearing, the government informed the court that the applications would be decided in accordance with the law and on merits as early as possible, preferably within four weeks. Taking this statement on record, the court disposed of the petition.

Advocate Narendra D. Sonawane appeared for the petitioner, while additional public prosecutor S P Sonpawale represented the state government.
