Height of Inhumanity: Pregnant woman forced into illegal abortion at home

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
In a shocking incident, a family, desperate to avoid having a third daughter, utilised an illegal gang to conduct a gender-determination test using a portable ultrasound machine inside their home. When initial attempts to induce an abortion via medication failed, the gang prepared to perform surgery within the house. The victim’s husband, in-laws, and the primary suspect, Kamal Gokul Tingote, along with her accomplices, fled through the back door just as the victim's father arrived at the scene.
Background of the Abuse
The 26-year-old victim resides in Naregaon. Her history of abuse is tied to the birth of her children; she was sent back to her parents’ home after her first daughter was born, and when her second child was also a girl, her husband abandoned her at the hospital. Though she eventually returned to him following family mediation, the obsession for a son persisted.
When she became pregnant for the third time, her husband brought two men and a woman to their home on February 27, 2026. Carrying a portable ultrasound machine, they forced the five-month-pregnant woman to undergo gender testing despite her frantic resistance and subsequent physical assault.
Surgical plans prepared at home (on March 6)
After the gang informed the family that the foetus was female, they demanded a high fee to perform an illegal abortion on March 6. One member of the gang identified herself as Kamal Tingote from Jalna. Despite the victim’s desperate pleas to spare the child, she was restrained and forced to ingest abortion pills. During the struggle, the victim managed to use her mobile phone to alert her sister and ask her to inform their father.
Agony Ignored During Forced Procedure
The Ordeal: After administering the pills at 3 pm, Kamal and two other women began applying heavy physical pressure to the victim’s abdomen at 5.30 pm while she lay face down. Her screams of agony reached the neighbours.
The Escape: As Kamal began laying out surgical instruments to remove the foetus, the victim’s father arrived. Sensing trouble, the perpetrators fled immediately.
Medical Emergency: The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where it was confirmed that the miscarriage had already occurred. Following her recovery, a formal police complaint was lodged on March 11. The investigation is conducted by assistant police inspector Kailas Lahane.
The Re-emergence of the Jalna Connection
Previous Rackets: In May 2024, Pundaliknagar police exposed a massive illegal abortion racket involving doctors and Unani practitioners spanning from Sillod to Jalna and Bhokardan. This latest incident points once again to a network based in Jalna.
Past Tragedies: This case mirrors a 2023 incident in Harsul, where a woman tragically lost her life during a botched home-abortion attempt.
