Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Keeping cash borrowed from friends for business purposes at home proved costly for a small-scale entrepreneur. As soon as he left for his company, thieves broke the door latch in broad daylight and decamped with ₹15 lakh in cash kept in an almirah. A case in this regard was registered at Harsul police station on February 11.
Ashok Jagdhane (62) resides with his wife in Harsiddhi Housing Society in Mayur Park. His daughter also lives in the same locality. Jagdhane runs a small-scale unit (in Waluj) manufacturing automobile parts and is a vendor for a vehicle company. His wife is also employed. On February 10 at around 11 am, both left for work as usual. At about 3.30 pm, when their domestic help arrived at the house, she noticed that the main door latch had been broken. She immediately informed Jagdhane. Thereafter, he and his wife rushed home.
The thieves had broken open the locker of a wooden cupboard in the inner room and made off with a bag containing 30 bundles of ₹500 notes, amounting to 3,000 notes in total. Upon receiving information about the incident, assistant commissioner of police Manoj Pagare, police inspector Swati Kedar, and PSI Sachin Pagote visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
CCTV cameras inactive, latch lock not secured
According to the police, the house is fitted with modern CCTV cameras. However, they had been non-functional for the past eight to ten days. In addition, the main door latch lock had not been secured. Taking advantage of this, the thieves entered the housing society in broad daylight and broke open the latch. Notably, although there were silver articles and other jewellery in the house, the thieves did not touch them and fled after getting hold of the cash worth lakhs of rupees.
