A house break-in was reported in Gulshannagar early Saturday after thieves targeted a locked residence while the family was away for medical treatment.

Zarinabi Habibkhan (29) had locked her house at 2 pm on Friday and left with her family to the district civil Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for her daughter’s treatment. Around 4.30 am on Saturday, three unidentified persons allegedly broke open the latch, entered the house, and stole Rs 1 lakh in cash kept in a cupboard and gold ornaments weighing about 2.5 grams worth Rs 20,000. Zarinabi’s uncle noticed the thieves leaving the house in the early morning and alerted her. On returning home Saturday afternoon, she found the cash and jewellery missing. An offence was registered against unknown persons at the Sillod city police station on Sunday at 2 pm. Police inspector Sheshrao Udar is investigating the case.
