An unidentified thief broke into a locked house in the Bhagat Singh Nagar area of Waluj and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth approximately Rs 2.75 lakh. The incident came to light on Wednesday.
According to the complaint filed by Moin Mansoor Syed, he had gone out of town with his family on the morning of February 17. On the morning of February 18, his neighbour Sanjay Salve called to inform him that the lock of his house appeared to be broken. Upon returning home, Syed found the bedroom cupboards open and clothes scattered. Steel containers in which the ornaments and cash were kept were also found opened.
The stolen items include a gold necklace weighing around 15 grams (Rs 60,000), a 10-gram gold chain (Rs 40,000), two pairs of gold earrings weighing 10 grams (Rs 40,000), five gold rings belonging to children (Rs 40,000), a silver anklet chain (Rs 30,000), silver bangles for children (Rs 20,000), along with cash worth Rs 45,000. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at Rs 2.75 lakh.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
