Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Humanity seems to be fading, as people often choose to record accident scenes on their mobile phones instead of helping victims, said justice Vibha Kankanwadi of the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court. She added that while such tendencies are increasing, the world continues to function because of people with good values. Donating one’s body, she said, brings the highest sense of fulfilment.

She was speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Smruti Suman Sohla’, a programme organised to raise awareness about body donation at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Friday. Dean Dr Shivaji Sukre presided over the event.

Among those present were government pleader adv Amarjeet Singh Girase, head of Anatomy Department Dr Archana Kalyankar, head of Pathology Dr Bharat Sonawane, Dr Vinod Mundada, Dr Prasad Deshpande, Dr Gayatri Tadwalkar, Dr Tapan Jakkal, Dr Mirza Beg, Dr Anjali Shete, Dr Kalpana Patil, Dr Anant Dhanwate, and Dr Hijab Akhtar. Relatives of body donors were honoured with shawls and mementoes. The programme was introduced by Dr Archana Kalyankar, compered by Dr Pallavi Chavan, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Sapna Ambekar.

Guidance on ‘Living Will’:

Justice Kankanwadi also spoke about the importance of body and organ donation, urging society to overcome misconceptions. She explained the concept of a ‘living will’ (advance directive), highlighting the importance of documenting one’s medical treatment preferences in advance for the final stages of life. Referring to her father’s body donation, she emphasised the need to set an example for society.
