Information exchange scheme exposes 375 habitual offenders; boosts theft investigations

An information exchange scheme launched by police has identified 375 habitual offenders and helped trace accused in over 100 pending cases, marking a major breakthrough in burglary and vehicle theft investigations. The initiative, led by special inspector general of police Virendra Mishra and superintendent of police Dr Vinaykumar Rathod, involves sharing details of arrested accused and suspects across police stations.

Launched on September 4, 2025, the scheme includes weekly review meetings chaired by SP Rathod and additional SP Annapurna Singh, where officers present repeat offenders and analyse crime patterns. So far, 13 meetings have reviewed 2,667 accused, with details of 1,428 exchanged.

Police identified 145 repeat offenders in 306 burglary cases, shared details of 128 of 461 vehicle theft accused, and flagged offenders in prohibition, arms, drug, and robbery cases. Officials said the scheme has accelerated investigations and helped arrest absconding criminals.
