To address complaints of higher power bills after installation of Smart TOD (Time of Day) meters, Mahavitaran will involve MPs, MLAs and corporators to spread awareness and clarify doubts. In select cases, consumers will be allowed to install a smart meter alongside the existing one to verify readings and ensure transparency. The utility has prioritised installing smart meters at the residences of its officers and staff to dispel misconceptions. For dual verification, the old meter must be in proper condition and untampered. So far, 3,77,568 smart meters have been installed in the circle 1,01,999 in the city division, 1,80,026 in the rural division and 95,543 in Jalna. In areas where doubts persist, readings of both meters can be compared for three to four days. This facility will not be extended to every individual consumer, said chief engineer Pawan Kumar Kachhot.
