The process of land measurement for the proposed industrial estate at Aarapur commenced on Wednesday, marking a key step in the long-pending acquisition exercise. Of the total 762.093 hectares notified for development, 63.51 hectares were measured on the first day. Officials from the Maharashtra industrial development corporation (MIDC) said the exercise will continue for the next ten days.

With industrial land in Waluj, Shendra and Bidkin nearly exhausted, several major companies are awaiting allocation in the city. To address the shortage, around 753 hectares at Aarapur, Gawli Shivar and Sultanabad have been declared as industrial area, along with 9.60 hectares of government land. Although the notification was issued in June 2025, the acquisition process was delayed due to disagreements over land rates. Following a meeting between farmers and the administration on April 24, nearly 90 per cent of landowners consented to the acquisition.

Measurement was carried out by three teams in the presence of farmers and officials from MIDC, revenue, forest and agriculture departments.

Opposition at Sultanabad

While measurement at Aarapoor and Gawli Shivar proceeded smoothly, some farmers at Sultanabad opposed the exercise, demanding that land rates be finalised before measurement. Officials said the process continued by excluding the objecting land parcels.
