A political confrontation has intensified between factions of the Shinde Sena and the Uddhav Sena over land acquisition linked to the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway.

On behalf of MP Sandipan Bhumre, his driver Javed Rasool Shaikh, through advocate Sandeep Gavhane, on Friday served a Rs 1 crore defamation notice to Uddhav Sena district chief Ambadas Danve. The notice states that if Danve does not issue a public apology within seven days, a civil defamation suit will be filed.

At a press conference on February 24, Danve alleged that neither Bhumre nor Javed had ownership or connection with Group No. 174 (Jogwada) and Survey No. 89 (Jatwada), yet were attempting to usurp Rs 1,150 crore in compensation. Advocate Gavhane termed the allegations defamatory.

Rs 1,600 crore compensation for land acquisition

The controversy pertains to land acquisition for the Samruddhi Expressway, inaugurated on December 11, 2022. The 112-km stretch passing through Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts saw compensation of around Rs 1,600 crore disbursed for land acquired from 61 villages 35 in Sambhajinagar tehsil, 11 in Gangapur, and 15 in Vaijapur. The highway work in the district was executed by MSRDC at a cost of Rs 3,400 crore, with Packages 8, 9, and 10 falling in these districts.

What is the factual position?

According to sub-divisional officer Venkat Rathod, certain disputed compensation amounts have been deposited in court due to issues related to 7/12 extracts. The dispute arose following a representation by Lata Waghmare, who claimed that three acres of land received by Javed through a gift deed (hibanama) were worth Rs 150 crore and, on a similar basis, land received by her was valued at Rs 1,150 crore. However, officials clarified that the group number cited by her does not exist. Jogwada has Group No. 174 and Jatwada has Group No. 89, and after land consolidation, the old group number ceased to exist. Documents produced in her great-grandfather’s name were not supported by any past or present 7/12 extract. She had also objected to compensation related to Group No. 154. Following the allegations, Bhumre’s team visited the SDM office to verify land acquisition records.
