MSEDCL to seek help of public representatives to recover pending bills

Not only ordinary citizens, but also government offices are in the forefront for non-payment of the electricity bills. Government offices in Marathwada have defaulted bills worth Rs 2,151 crore. Yet they are being supplied with uninterrupted power. Now the arrears are being recovered with the help of MLAs and guardian minister, informed MSEDCL officials.

Considering the impact of Covid-19, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Company Ltd (MSEDCL) avoided disconnecting the power supply to any customer for non-payment of electricity bills. Requests, notifications, SMS, WhatsApp messages are being sent to electricity customers under the guidance of joint-managing director Dr Naresh Gite. MSEDCL has to supply electricity to the customers by purchasing electricity. The financial condition of MSEDCL has become critical due to non-recovery of electricity bills. Nearly 43,138 electricity consumers including government offices in Aurangabad, Latur and Nanded circles in Marathwada are in arrears of Rs 2,151 crore. On the one hand, defaulted bills are not recovered, and on the other hand, the electricity consumption continues. Despite all efforts, the officials find it difficult to recover pending bills. Hence the MSEDCL has now decided to recover arrears with the help of local MLAs and guardian ministers.
