Chhattrapati Sambhajiangar: The non-teaching employees of non-agricultural universities and colleges across Maharashtra will launch a phase-wise agitation starting May 14, 2026. The Maharashtra State University and College Employees Joint Action Committee announced the statewide protest, citing the government's failure to act on long-pending demands despite repeated assurances.

A delegation from the committee, led by Dr Kailas Pathrikar, met Vice-Chancellor Dr Vijay Fulari and Registrar Dr. Prashant Amritkar to formally warn of the impending agitation. Committee leaders Ajay Deshmukh and Dr Kailas Ambhure stated that employees would no longer remain silent given the government's inaction.

The strike is expected to significantly disrupt university academic and examination activities across the state.

Key demands include:

Immediate approval to fill vacant non-teaching posts in universities and colleges.

Implementation of the Assured Career Progression Scheme under the 7th Pay Commission after 10, 20, and 30 years of service.

Full implementation of 7th Pay Commission benefits for non-teaching staff.

Restoration of the Old Pension Scheme for employees recruited before 2005 but appointed after.
