Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Despite the government-fixed rate of Rs 61 per litre for LPG supplied to auto-rickshaws, several LPG pumps in the city have allegedly been charging between Rs 89 and Rs 126 per litre. Following a rise in complaints from rickshaw drivers’ associations, district supply officer Pravin Phulari has issued show-cause notices to eight LPG distributors. The distributors served notices include Prime Fuel, Go Gas, Purti Gas, Total Gas, Indian Auto, Easy Pump, Jyada Gas, and EGIS Gas. Phulari has warned that violation of norms will invite criminal proceedings and possible cancellation of licences. Rickshaw unions have alleged that while fare revisions have not been approved and prices of essential commodities continue to rise, drivers are being forced to purchase LPG at inflated rates. After the unions accused the district administration of turning a blind eye, the supply department initiated action, cautioning distributors against charging above the notified rates. Issuance of proper receipts and bills to every customer has been made mandatory.
