“Money is important for running hospitals. However, treatment should be given priority first. Because this is a business to be done with noble values. The treatment should be started immediately after the patient arrives at the hospital and then, fees should be charged.
The structure of treatment fees should be clear. Information about treatment and fees should be provided in a harmonious manner with the patient and relatives. This will help avoid disputes,” opined the experts at the Marathwada Medicolegal Summit organised by the city branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shilwant Nandedkar, prominent surgeon of the city Dr Unmesh Takalkar, Mumbai TNMC Dean Dr Shailesh Mohite, Dr Azharuddin Siddiqui, NMC Inspector Dr Kailash Zine, IMA city president Dr Anupam Takalkar, secretary Dr Yogesh Lakkas and Dr Ravindra Kute were present for the inaugural ceremony of the conference.
Dr Unmesh Takalkar said instead of taking care of something that happens in hospitals, we should be vigilant in order to prevent it from happening. “We should look at patients with a sense of humanity and communicate with them,” he added. Explaining the activities of IMA Dr Anupam Takalkar expressed concern about the issues faced by hospitals and doctors.
Dr Yashwant Gade, Dr Santosh Ranjalkar, Dr Archana Vare, Dr Ajay Vare, Dr Sarojini Jadhav, Dr Shilpa Asegaonkar and others were present.
Dr Anup Toshniwal, Dr Prafulla Jatale, Dr Mangesh Tandale and Dr Sonali Savji conducted the proceedings of the programme.

Service is needed along with business: Nandedkar
Shilwant Nandedkar said hospital employees should be taught soft skills. “Competition has increased. But, service is needed along with business. Companies write prices on medicines. But, doctors prescribe them. So, the doctor is the 'face' in front every time. There should be CCTV cameras in hospitals,” he added.

Keep written record of every treatment
Dr Manish Shrigiriwar of AIIMS- Nagpur said a written record should be kept of every treatment given to a patient who should be informed about the treatment being given from time to time. Dr Neeraj Nagpal of PGI Chandigarh said if patients complain in any district or state, the concerned doctors have to travel there as the situation of the past few years is proving to be fatal for the medical profession. Dr Anand Pawar from Nashik said it is necessary to maintain good communication with patients.
