Police book Congress activists for organising bicycle rallies

Aurangabad, July 17:

The City Chowk police station have registered offences against office-bearers of Youth Congress and Seva Dal for violating the Disaster Management Act, which is implemented in the city, in the wake of Covid-19. Two different bicycle rallies were organised to register protests against the hike in prices of fuel and essential commodities on Friday.

The rally of Seva Dal was organised in the presence of the state president, Vilas Autade, from the Mahatma Gandhi statue (Shahgunj). The medical education minister Amit Deshmukh has participated in the rally. On the basis of a complaint lodged by the assistant police inspector Syed Mohsin Ali Azhar, the offence has been registered against 25-30 Congress office-bearers and activists including Altaf Latif Patel, Vilas Autade, Nilesh Pawar, Prahlad Kale and Arun Shirsaat,

for violating prohibitory orders and gathering at one place.

The second rally was organised by Youth Congress from Gandhi statue to the district collectorate. On the complaint of police inspector Ashok Bhandare, the offences have been registered against Muzaffar Khan Pathan, Pankaj Thombre, Gaurav Jaiswal, Nilesh Ambewadikar, Jitendra Dehade and 25 others.

The rally was also participated by minister Deshmukh, but the police have not registered offence against him. When inquired with the City Chowk police inspector Sambhaji Pawar said, " The offences have been registered against the organisers of both the rallies and 20-25 others. If more names are found during the investigation, we would include them also on the orders of the superiors."
