An unidentified youth allegedly duped an 80-year-old woman of Rs 6,800 after offering to help her count cash withdrawn from a bank. The incident occurred around 1 pm on May 5 at the SBI branch in Bansilalnagar. A case has been registered at Vedantnagar police station.

Complainant Tribhuvan (80), a resident of the Devlai Chowk area, had withdrawn ₹20,000 from the bank. While she was sorting out worn-out currency notes, an unknown youth struck up a conversation and gained her trust. Offering to count the money, he took the cash from her and, through sleight of hand, allegedly stole Rs 6,800 before fleeing the spot.
