Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Postal department employees staged a protest on Friday over their pending demands, following a nationwide call by central employee unions. Discontent is growing across the country due to the delay in announcing the dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees, prompting several unions to warn of intensified agitation.

Around 40 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners are awaiting the DA hike. The unions have cautioned that if a decision is not taken soon, the agitation will be escalated further.

Meanwhile, employees of the postal department raised their voice over various pending issues and demanded immediate action. Key demands include issuing orders to recognise all unions, declaring the pending DA from January 1, 2026, and ensuring that changes in cadre structure do not lead to mergers but retain independent identity.

Additional demands include halting the merger of the postal and RMS (Railway Mail Service) departments, scrapping the mandatory centralised IDC distribution system, and withdrawing action against employees who participated in protests. Employees also demanded that the decentralisation of PAO (Pay and Accounts Office) be stopped and that the 1,520 abolished posts be reinstated.
