With chants of “Victory to Lord Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu,” a grand procession on Sunday evening conveyed the social message of “My city, clean city.” A group of 101 young men and women from the Brahmanad drum troupe delivered an energetic performance, beginning with a conch-blowing ritual.
The procession was organised from Samarthnagar by the Parshuram Janmotsav Committee under the Brahmin Samaj Samanvay Samiti. Earlier, the birth anniversary of Parashurama was celebrated at Samarth Ram Temple by the Adya Gaud Vipra community, where a play based on the deity’s life was presented.
The main procession then began. A disciplined lezim troupe of 51 women and young girls, organised by the Kanva Brahmin community, added vibrancy to the event. A young participant, Rishabh Mishra, dressed as Parshuram on a chariot, drew significant attention. Four chariots carried Vedic scholars, while a seven-foot-tall idol of Parshuram on another chariot saw devotees bowing in reverence.
Women from the Shiv-Parvati Bhajani Mandal in Shivshankar Colony performed traditional dances to devotional songs. Drum troupes including Brahmanad, Brahmastra and Ramrajya created a powerful atmosphere with their performances.
The procession concluded at the Parshuram Stambh in Aurangpura, passing through Savarkar Chowk, Niralabazar and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Chowk. Organisers and volunteers worked extensively to ensure the event’s success.
Social messages draw attention
Women in the procession carried placards conveying social messages such as “Fulfil your duties, build the nation,” “Women empowerment is true nation-building,” and “Save nature, secure the future.” Participants also wore saffron caps, reinforcing the message of “My city, clean city.”
Morning ritual at Parshuram Stambh
Earlier in the morning, a puja of the Parshuram stambh at Aurangpura was performed by the chairman of the Parshuram Economic Development Corporation, captain Ashish Damle and industrialist Vivek Deshpande, with Vedic chants by scholars.
Vehicle rally promotes discipline
Following the ritual, a vehicle rally was organised with many young people in traditional attire. The rally, conducted while strictly following traffic rules, conveyed a message of peace and civic discipline, drawing appreciation from onlookers.
