Protection Law Demanded for English Schools

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The English Schools Mahasangh (ESM) demanded that the English Schools protection law be made, considering increasing interference by outsiders in school operations, false complaints, seeking extortion and physical attacks on school staff.

The ESM office-bearers submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Finance Minister, School Education Minister, Urban Development Minister, and Commerce Minister, demanding resolution of 10 long-pending issues and issuance of appropriate ordinances/circulars. Several teacher-constituency legislators have already raised this issue in the Legislative Council.

The charter of ESM demands included implement a School Protection Law for English Schools, parents must pay tuition fees by year-end, failing which, admission may be cancelled and action taken under the Fees Act, school buildings should not be charged electricity bills or property tax at commercial rates, a 50% concession in property tax should be granted, excluding education and sanitation taxes, Pre-primary classes should only be permitted as an extension of recognised schools, all outstanding RTE 25% reimbursements should be paid to schools. ESM State President Dr Prasad Sonawane, Vice Presidents Pralhad Shinde, Harish Shinde and others signed the memorandum.
