PSI booked for rape of complainant; forced abortions alleged
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Police sub-inspector Subhash Chavan (57), posted at Kranti Chowk police station, has been booked for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman who had approached the station on March 7, 2025, to report her lost mobile phone. He took her number, later called her to a hotel on March 17 on the pretext of returning the phone, gained her trust with promises of marriage, and allegedly established physical relations, meeting her repeatedly at various locations. When she became pregnant in June 2025, he allegedly took her to Pune and forced an abortion. He later threatened, assaulted, and abused her with caste-based slurs, and warned of filing an extortion case if she informed his family. When she became pregnant again, his wife Narmada and son Sagar allegedly assaulted her and forced another abortion. He also threatened her at court on January 18. Following her complaint, a rape and Atrocities Act case was registered against Chavan, his wife, and son. Assistant comissioner of police Sagar Deshmukh is investigating.
