Rain plays truant in 3 districts of Godavari catchment area

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Many parts of the state experiencing heavy rainfall. However, rain is playing truant in three districts in Marathwada, West and North Maharashtra.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nashik, and Ahmednagar are included in the catchment area of Godavari River. The districts have been affected with scanty rainfall. There is a lot of expectation of heavy rainfall in the catchment area of Godavari.

A total of 877 water reservoirs in the region, including 11 big, and 75 medium level are still thirsty due to rainfall deficit in the catchment area.

As per the data, 59.5 per cent rainfall was recorded in the region. This is good for sowing but not for filling up dams.

A total of 11 rivers including Godavari were not flowing because of poor rainfall. Their water level has not increased. If the situation continues in the remaining two months, it may result in water scarcity in the coming days.

Situation in M’wada

A total of eight districts of the division have received 59.9 per cent rainfall in 60 days compared to the annual average. The annual average rainfall is 679.5 mm. Compared to that, the division received 380.1 mm rain till now.

Nashik situation

The annual average of Nashik is 933 mm while it received 389 mm rainfall so far. This is just 41 per cent rainfall of the annual average.

Rain in Ahmednagar

The annual average rainfall of Ahmednagar is 448 mm. It received 326 mm so far. It is 72 per cent of the total rainfall.
