Aurangabad, Nov 22:

In order to take care of the health of livestock, the work of vaccination for the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) under 128 hospitals in the district has been completed. Despite, 92 per cent target achieved, only 16 per cent work of filling of online forms have been completed.

As a result, Aurangabad district, which was in the top ten in on field work, has seen a sharp drop in rankings due to shortage of manpower. Therefore, while expressing satisfaction at work, the state animal husbandry commissioner has given instructions to increase online work.

A review meeting of the department of animal husbandry was held recently. The commissioner reviewed the work of the district. Out of 128 veterinary hospitals and dispensaries in the district, 38 are of category one and 46 of category two are run by the animal husbandry department of Zilla Parishad.

There are 19 vacancies for animal husbandry officer, 5 vacancies for assistant animal husbandry officer, 9 vacancies for livestock supervisor, 16 vacancies for veterinary officer, 1 vacancy for section officer and 115 posts of peon are vacant in the hospitals.

Therefore, it has become difficult for the district to reach the given objectives of the National Artificial Insemination Programme, FMD vaccination and tagging animals.

Lack of workforce

There are more than seven lakh animals in the district. The actual workforce of the department proves insufficient for providing treatment to such a large number. In Sillod and Soygaon tehsils 80 per cent posts are vacant. Thus, due to insufficient manpower, the rank of the district in the state has come down, animal husbandry officer Dr Surekha Mane said.
