Aurangabad, Dec 8:

The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) has issued a circular to allow Ayurvedic doctors to perform surgery. An agitation was organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) at IMA Hall on Tuesday. The members demanded that the permission must be revoked and the circular should be withdrawn immediately.

The members said, doctors spend years studying MBBS and MD and gain experience by spending hours in hospital. They work hard to save the lives of patients. It is not easy to become an experienced practitioner. However, the government has endangered the lives of the common man by issuing a circular giving the ayurvedic doctors to perform surgery on patients. Therefore, this circular should be withdrawn immediately. The seats of MBBS, MS should be increased so that the number of good studious doctors will increase. Also, sections 32, 50 and 51 of the National Medical Commission should be repealed. Non-qualified persons are also allowed to provide medical services that should not be allowed. Also the bridge courses must be abolished. IMA president Dr Santosh Ranjalkar, Vice president Dr Anupam Takalkar, secretary Dr Yashwant Gade, Women VP Dr Ujwala Dahiphale, Dr Rashmi Borikar, Dr Anant Kulkarni, Dr Jeevan Rajput, Dr Ujwala Zanwar and other doctors were present.
