Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A red sand boa snake was spotted near a well in a farm area at Ghanegaon, creating a brief atmosphere of fear among locals. However, due to the prompt response of snake rescuers, the snake was safely captured and its life was saved.

Balu Gore noticed the snake near the farm and immediately informed snake rescuers Laxman Gaike and Datta Jadhav. They rushed to the spot and, upon inspection, identified it as a red sand boa. The rescuers safely captured the snake and also educated residents about the species.

They explained that the red sand boa is commonly found in villages, cities, forests, and among piles of stones and bricks. It mainly feeds on rodents, small animals, birds, and their eggs, and typically lives in burrows in soft soil. Its head and tail appear quite similar, making it difficult to identify.

They also informed citizens that keeping such a snake is an offence under the Wildlife Protection Act. The rescuers then contacted the Forest Department. Under the guidance of forester Sudhir Dhawan and forest guards Sunil Kadpe and Pawan Kakarwal, the snake was safely released into the sanctuary at Daulatabad.
