Relative assaults minor girl; infant dies after birth
A chilling incident has come to light in Paranda tehsil, where a relationship that should have been a source of safety became one of betrayal. Under the pretext of caring for a sick mother, a relative lured a minor girl to his home and repeatedly assaulted her, exploiting her helplessness. As a result of this heinous act, the 17-year-old girl became pregnant, and tragically, her eight-month-old infant died during treatment at the district hospital.
The survivor and the accused are close blood relatives. From May 2025, the accused began visiting the survivor's home and gained her trust by saying, "My mother is ill, come help look after her." Her family, trusting him, sent their daughter along with him. However, the accused threatened her within the house and repeatedly assaulted her. When the survivor's health deteriorated over recent days, she was admitted to the district civil Hospital in Dharashiv. Upon performing a caesarean section, doctors found that the eight-month foetus was stillborn. Recognising the gravity of the incident, Paranda Police have registered serious offences against the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.
The 'Pink Squad' from Bhum is conducting a thorough investigation into the case.
