Retired police officer cheated of Rs 1.33 crore in land deal

A case has been registered at City Chowk police station after a group of six persons allegedly cheated a retired police officer and his friend of Rs 1.33 crore in a land deal involving the sale of 18.7 gunthas of land for Rs 2 crore. The offence was registered on March 7.

The accused have been identified as Shaikh Irfan, his brother Shaikh Salman, their mother Gausiya Begum, their father Shaikh Shafiq (all residents of Salman Hall near Delhi Gate), Shaikh Jameel (34, resident of Roze Bagh Eidgah slum) and Shaikh Imran (resident of Kaiser Colony). Jameel works as an employee of the main accused Irfan.

According to the complaint filed by Gorakh Chavan, a retired police sub-inspector from Ekta Nagar on Jatwada Road, his friend Yasin Khan introduced him to Irfan for the land deal. Of the amount paid, Rs 20 lakh belonged to Chavan while the remaining amount was paid by Yasin, who runs a business of buying and selling used two-wheelers. Further investigation is being conducted by economic offences branch inspector Sambhaji Pawar.

Cheques issued but never cleared

Despite receiving Rs 1.33 crore in February 2024, the accused allegedly did not execute the land sale deed. On July 23, 2024, Chavan and Yasin executed a registered notary agreement on a Rs 100 bond paper mentioning the transaction and the amount paid. Later, Irfan issued several cheques of different amounts and dates, but none were cleared. Some cheques were issued from closed bank accounts.

Abused and threatened when they went to take possession

After the accused promised to hand over shops No. 3 and 4 in Building No. 2 at Salman Hall, Yasin went to take possession. At that time, Irfan’s father Shafiq allegedly abused him and threatened him by displaying a firearm, warning him not to return. The complaint states that he also issued further threats while referring to his son Irfan.
