Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A hotel waiter lost his job following a workplace dispute. Driven by rage, he teamed up with a friend to waylay a former colleague in the middle of the street, attempting to murder him by stabbing him in the stomach. As the victim tried to flee while bleeding, the attackers chased him down and repeatedly stabbed him in the back. The incident occurred on April 6 at 12.30 am in the Machhali Khadak area.

The victim, Shivraj Ashruba Thorbole (Vashi, Dharashiv district), was critically injured in the attack. The assailants also turned their knives on two friends who rushed to Shivraj’s rescue. Shivraj and his friend, Aniket Todkar, had started working at a hotel in Machhali Khadak two months ago. Following a dispute with a colleague named Veer, the hotel owner sacked Veer. Furthermore, Veer felt deeply humiliated after being reprimanded in front of everyone.

At approximately 12.15 am on April 6, Aniket, Shivraj, and Vikram Singh left the hotel after closing up to head to their lodgings. While Aniket and Singh walked ahead, Shivraj stopped to buy cigarettes. At that moment, Veer Gaikwad and an unidentified accomplice cornered Shivraj and plunged a knife into his stomach, also inflicting severe wounds on his hands. In a desperate bid to save his life, a blood-soaked Shivraj began running down the street. Hearing his screams, Aniket and Singh rushed towards him.

Knife purchased from Sunday market

As Shivraj ran, clutching his wounds, Veer chased him down and stabbed him again in the back. Veer’s accomplice, Bobby Pagare, dealt a second blow to his back, further injuring him. When Aniket attempted to intervene and stop Veer and Bobby, he also sustained serious injuries to his hands.

Locals rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion, successfully apprehending Veer and Bobby before handing them over to the City Chowk Police. Based on Aniket’s statement, PSI Ajit Dagadkhair registered a case of attempted murder. The court has remanded both attackers to police custody until April 9. Notably, it was revealed that Veer had specifically purchased the knife from the Sunday market prior to the midnight attack with the intent to kill Shivraj.
