A tragic accident occurred at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Karodi on Tuesday at around 11 am, resulting in the death of an RTO agent.

The deceased, identified as Somnath Atmaram Kakde (Shendra, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), was standing near a ramp when a heavy goods vehicle (lorry), brought in for a fitness passing, crushed him under its left wheel. The incident, attributed to the driver's negligence, was captured on the RTO office’s CCTV cameras.

The vehicle involved (registration number MH 18 BA 8017) was brought to the office by driver Machhindra Parasnath Dhanad and owner Dadasaheb Thombare (both residents of Vaijapur). Initially parked outside due to incomplete paperwork, the truck was being moved toward the ramp once the documents were cleared. Witnesses state that the driver moved the vehicle forward without checking his surroundings. Somnath Kakde (30 years), who was standing to the left of the vehicle, was caught under the wheel and sustained grave injuries.

Bystanders rushed Kakde to a private hospital in the Bajajnagar area via ambulance. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to a specialist facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the accident, the vehicle was taken to the Daulatabad police station, and the process of registering a formal case was underway till late in the evening.

Two young children left fatherless

Somnath Kakde was known in the RTO circle as a humble and hardworking individual. He supported his family by assisting vehicle owners with their documentation and administrative tasks.

His untimely death has devastated his family. Kakde is survived by his wife, two minor children, his brother, and his parents. The sudden loss of the family's primary breadwinner has cast a pall of gloom over the Shendra locality, with many expressing deep sorrow over the unfortunate accident.
