Posting an advertisement to sell an old table and a stand on social media proved to dearer to a young city girl as the accused under the aegis of purchasing them withdrew Rs 2.95 lakh from her bank account through online. The incident took place on December 6, but the complaint was lodged with Pundaliknagar police station on December 11.

The complainant Vaibhavi works in a private company in Pune. However, for the past many days, she was staying with her parents in Chhatrapatinagar at Garkheda. On December 6 at 2.30 pm, she uploaded the photographs of old table and old stand which were lying unused in the house on social media (Olx). After some time, she got a call from an unidentified woman telling that she liked the table. Later on, one Madan Sharma called her and told he also liked the table and asked about the final cost of it. The complainant told that the cost of both the table and stand is Rs 2,750. The accused agreed to purchase both the items and then sent Rs 10 to Vaibhavi through GooglePay. The accused, through his sweet talks, convinced Vaibhavi to sent Rs 2,750 to him through the same mode payment and assured of returning the same. Vaibhavi sent the money, but she did not get her money back. After some time, the accused send a QR Code on her mobile and told her to scan it, and she would get her money. As soon as she scanned the code, the accused through GooglePay and Net Banking withdrew Rs 2.95 lakh from her bank account. She requested to return the money but was in vain. Hence, Vaibhavi lodged the complaint with police on December 11.
