A money exchange businessman was robbed of Rs 5.17 lakh after being lured on the pretext of converting US dollars, with assailants throwing chilli powder into his eyes and attacking him with a sickle weapon before fleeing. The shocking incident occurred on Friday evening in Vidyanagar near Seven Hills.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in front of Abhinav Sankalp Apartment, Vidyanagar. A case has been registered against three unidentified persons at Pundlik Nagar Police Station. The complainant, Tejpalsingh Sahani (52, Osmanpura), runs a money exchange business. On April 24, around 5 pm, he received a call from a person identifying himself as Mahi Khan from Wonder Travels, sought to exchange 5,500 US dollars and sent him a location in Vidyanagar. Sahani reached the spot on his two-wheeler (MH-20-GT-5137) carrying Rs 5.17 lakh in cash (1,034 notes of Rs 500). in a black bag walking straight into a trap. As he waited, two men approached from behind. One flung chilli powder into his eyes. The other attacked his hand and back with a sharp weapon. Blinded and bleeding, Sahani was dragged off his vehicle and the bag snatched. He attempted to chase them but a third accomplice was already waiting on a motorcycle nearby. The trio fled within seconds. Sahani sustained injuries in the attack. A case has been registered at Pundliknagar police station.
