Small scale businesses flourish in Naregaon

Aurangabad, July 6:

Naregaon area which had carried a negative image for long due to garbage depot, has now come to be known as a hub of small scale industries. With the launch of various small scale businesses, many people have found employment in the area and due to basic facilities and various development works, Naregaon is becoming a centre of employment.

A garbage depot was created at Naregaon after the formation of the municipal corporation. The area was considered unsanitary due to huge piles of garbage. Development of the area had come to a halt, hence the residents of the area held protests and demonstrations against dumping of garbage. As a result, the administration decided to close down the garbage depot. The residents then turned to entrepreneurship and started businesses like bank service centres, furniture, engineering workshops, colour manufacturing companies, cloth, stationary, construction material shops, gas repairing workshops and catering services. The businesses have provided large employment opportunities to youths. Earlier, the roads in Naregaon were in bad shape. However, now the concrete roads have changed the scenario. Similarly, the food processing business which never flourished due to unhygienic conditions have now established themselves in Naregaon. The slums have also undergone transformation with construction of complexes and apartments. The middle class population has also grown in Naregaon.

Piles of garbage

Despite the area undergoing change, the area is still home to large piles of garbage deposited in the past. The residents have been demanding to process the garbage in a proper manner so that it does not prove a threat to the residents and nature.
