Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
The Nanded division of the railways has taken another step towards green energy, now reaching Lasur. The blazing sun throughout the day will now become a source of financial savings for Lasur railway station. With the installation of a 10 kW rooftop solar project, a new chapter of eco-friendly energy use has begun, along with significant electricity savings.
Under the ongoing renewable energy initiative, rooftop solar projects are being steadily installed across various railway establishments. This project is expected to result in substantial annual electricity savings and reduce railway expenditure. It is also seen as an important step towards increasing the use of clean energy and reducing carbon emissions.
The Nanded division has previously installed solar projects at several locations, and the Lasur initiative marks another key milestone in this series. By promoting the use of clean energy at the local level, the railways continue to move towards sustainable development.
Annual savings of Rs 13 lakh
Along with Lasur, rooftop solar projects of 20 kW capacity have been installed at Dinegaon and 60 kW at Mudkhed. These projects are expected to generate approximately 1,31,400 units of clean electricity annually, leading to estimated savings of around ₹13.14 lakh per year for the railways.
Reduction of 108 metric tonnes of carbon emissions
In addition to financial savings, these projects will significantly contribute to environmental sustainability, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 108 metric tonnes annually.
