Stray dogs maul four-year-old girl, leave over 50 wounds

In a shocking incident on Saturday around 3 am, four-year-old Ayesha Syed of Naregaon was attacked by a pack of five to six stray dogs. The dogs bit and scratched her at over 50 places, leaving her severely injured. She is undergoing treatment in Ward 25 of the Government Medical College and Hospital (Ghati), and doctors have stated her condition is stable.

The injured child has been identified as Ayesha Syed (4), a resident of Naregaon. The attack occurred when Ayesha was standing at her doorstep as her family woke up for Sehri during Ramzan. Nearby residents rushed to rescue her and took her to the hospital immediately.

Injections administered for every wound

Under Unit 4 of the paediatrics department, each wound was treated with anti-rabies serum (ARS) and she was administered anti-rabies vaccine (ARV), intravenous fluids, and antibiotics. Treatment is overseen by Dr Prabha Khaire, with Dr Ubed Rehman and Dr Aniket Sarvade attending.

Four stray dogs captured

Municipal veterinary officer Dr Shahed Shaikh confirmed that four stray dogs from the area have been captured. Ayesha’s maternal uncle, Mustafa Syed, said the dogs dragged her away from the house before she was rescued by locals.
