Think twice before visiting Devgiri Fort

In an action to avoid the repetition of fire accidents in future, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI, Aurangabad Circle) has geared up and started checking visitors stepping in to see the Devgiri Fort at Daulatabad. During the check-up, the ASI staff prohibits entry to visitors carrying cigarettes, bidi, matchbox, lighter or tobacco products (if any) in their pockets. Entry into the Fort is allowed only after dropping these materials at the entrance.

As reported earlier, a massive fire broke out on the Fort campus on April 8. The wildfire engulfed the majority of the portion. Hence as a preventive measure, the ASI staff has started checking every visitor at the Fort’s entrance. Security personnel have been deployed for the checking.

The superintending archaeologist (ASI, Aurangabad Circle) Dr Shiv Kumar Bhagat said, “ I have visited the Fort to assess the losses due to the fire incident. I observed some trees and shrubs were burned. A small wooden portion of Baradari had also been burnt. No damage has been spotted anywhere else. Meanwhile, we have started checking visitors at the entrance of the Fort. If any material like cigarettes, matchboxes, tobacco products etc is found during check-up, they are directed to drop at the entrance and gain entry. In terms of security, we will be taking more adequate measures to ensure safety on the Fort.”
