Aurangabad, Nov 21:

The traffic change at Akashwani to closed the signal between 6 pm to 8 pm and allowing only vehicles going straight has proved successful. The experiment has helped to reduce the traffic jams on Jalna Road on both lanes. Moreover, the traffic police stopped the traffic after every three minutes and allowed pedestrians to cross the road.

Frequent traffic jams were experienced at Akashwani Chowk on Jalna Road. Hence, the police administration decided to change the traffic on an experimental basis. Accordingly, the signals were to be kept closed between November 21 and 27 between 6 pm and 8 pm. Only the vehicles going straight on both the lanes are allowed from Akashwani Chowk. ACP (Traffic), Suresh Wankhede, PI Mukund Deshmukh, PI Kailas Deshmane, and 15 employees of the traffic branch are implementing the experimental traffic changes. The signals were closed at 6 pm, and the road going towards Trimurti Chowk and Maheshnagar were closed with barricades. The vehicles going from Trimurti Chowk towards Maheshnagar were given the alternate route below the Mondha Naka fly over. Similarly, the vehicles going from Maheshnagar to Trimurti Chowk have to opt the route under Seven Hills fly over. This change has given great relief to the vehicles going from Mahavir Chowk towards Cidco and from Cidco towards Mahavir Chowk.

Moreover, the signal at Dudh Dairy Chowk is closed for almost a year now between 6 pm and 8 pm and only vehicles going straight on Jalna Road are allowed.

The changes in the traffic at Akashwani has given relief to the frequent jams on the first day itself.

ACP, Suresh Wankhede said, the traffic jams were not noticed at Akashwani Chowk as the signals were closed in the evening. Similarly, the vehicles on other routes were provided with alternate routes from Mondha Naka and Seven Hills flyovers. A PSI and four policemen are deployed at each chowk, he said.
