Major anti-drug operation in Mumbai: Heroin worth Rs 3.82 crore seized, two arrested

Mumbai, May 11 In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Kandivali Unit of the Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) arrested two alleged drug suppliers and seized 765 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs 3.82 crore in the international market, officials said on Monday.

The operation was carried out near Yari Road in the Versova area of Andheri, following specific intelligence inputs received by the police regarding suspected drug trafficking activity in the locality.

The arrested accused have been identified as Arman Ayub Malik (32) and Danish Bhura Ali (23), both residents of Uttarakhand.

According to the police, the duo had allegedly travelled to Mumbai with the sole intention of supplying narcotics in the city.

Police officials said the accused were apprehended during a raid conducted by the ANC team, during which the heroin consignment was recovered from their possession.

A case has been registered against them under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Both accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them to police custody till May 15 for further interrogation.

During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed that they had visited Mumbai several times in the past to carry out drug trafficking operations.

Officials said the duo would reportedly travel from Uttarakhand to Mumbai, rent temporary accommodation, sell the narcotics consignment, and then return to their home state after completing the transactions.

Police sources revealed that the accused admitted to making nearly six to seven such trips to Mumbai in the past for drug supply activities.

Officials said the investigation is now focused on tracing the larger network linked to the racket, including suppliers, local distributors, financiers, and possible interstate connections.

The ANC is also trying to ascertain the source of the heroin and identify the intended recipients of the seized consignment.

A senior Mumbai Police official stated that further arrests are likely as the probe progresses, and technical as well as financial investigations are being carried out to uncover the full extent of the narcotics network.
