Two-day police custody for home guard in firing case

A home guard who allegedly opened fire in a residential area while under the influence of alcohol has been remanded to two days of police custody. Judicial Magistrate First Class Snehal Jadhav passed the order on Saturday against Prasenjit Kamble (48, Nisarg Colony, Bhavsinghpura).

When Kamble was produced before the court, Assistant Public Prosecutor Sudesh Dalvi submitted that the accused had failed to provide satisfactory information regarding 17 rounds allegedly fired earlier. Seeking further investigation into the matter, the prosecution requested police custody, which the court granted.

What was the incident?

According to the complaint filed by police constable Shafiq Shaikh (41) of Chhawani police station, information was received through the 112 beat marshal around 9.30 pm on February 27 about firing in the Nisarg Colony area. Police rushed to the spot and found that Kamble, a resident of the colony, was allegedly firing shots while intoxicated. He reportedly fired from his licensed 12-bore gun in the open space in front of his house without any provocation. During questioning, it emerged that he had fired two rounds that night and 17 rounds earlier. Police seized a 12-bore gun, 19 empty cartridges and 13 live cartridges from his possession, collectively valued at Rs 13,440. A case has been registered at Chhavani police station.
