A spate of house break-ins, shop thefts, liquor burglaries and chain-snatching incidents has raised concern across the city. After four shops were recently targeted on Jalna Road, two house burglaries and a beer bar theft were registered on May 5.

In Begumpura, burglars stole Rs 95,000 cash and gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs, including a one-tola necklace, earrings, bangles, children’s gold rings, a gold chain and silver jewellery, from the house of Amol Kusale (Dhimbergalli) between May 3 and 5. In another case, Asha Kanade (Chaudeshwari Society), who had gone to Pune on May 3, returned on May 5 to find her house lock broken and ornaments missing. Cases were registered at the Begumpura and Pundliknagar police stations. Advocate Shripad Kutasakar’s mobile phone was stolen near Shahanurmiya Dargah on May 4 evening; Jawaharnagar police registered the offence. At an Azad Chowk beer bar, 128 liquor bottles and three units worth Rs 29,500 were stolen between midnight and morning on May 5. Jinsi police registered a case on manager Sachin Kunthe’s complaint. Four motorcycles were also reported stolen; cases were lodged at Cidco, Mukundwadi, Satara and MIDC Cidco police stations on May 5.
