Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Residents in several prominent localities of the city have begun installing height restriction bars and road barricading poles on their own, raising serious concerns over civic governance and public safety.
Areas such as Bhaktinagar, Shivajinagar, Surahananagar and parts of N-1 in Cidco have witnessed the erection of unauthorised height bars and iron poles placed in the middle of roads. While some residents claim the measures are aimed at preventing heavy vehicle movement and ensuring internal safety, officials confirm that no formal permissions have been granted for such installations.
Urban planners and traffic experts warn that arbitrary road obstructions can disrupt emergency services, including fire brigades and ambulances, besides creating inconvenience for regular commuters. The absence of clear signage and standardised installation further increases the risk of accidents, particularly during night hours. The development has also sparked debate over the role of the municipal corporation in monitoring upscale residential pockets. Unauthorised height bars and road poles surface in elite localities, civic oversight questioned. Civic authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement, but sources indicate that action may be initiated after a formal inspection.
